I survived

After yesterday's alarmingly negative post, I just want to let you know that life really is fabulous.  I did go to church and did teach my lesson successfully.  My headache went away, though my back still hurts.  I got to see friends and sit by them and chat and have a good time.  The Spirit was strong and with me most of the day.  I was fasting for a couple of items, and one of them was answered before the fast was finished.  The other was for another person, and that will be ongoing, but I felt that it was a very successful fast.

I really do wonder why I don't fast more.  The results are usually so powerful and so automatic, that you would think I would use it on a weekly basis.  But alas, I am quite fond of food and fasting is very very difficult for me.  That means that when I do fast, it really has to be for something specific and that I really desire to fast about.

Migraines

I must say that I hate, hate, hate headaches.  I have been plagued by headaches for years.  I remember my first headache when I was about 11 years old.  I remember seeing sparkly things out of the right side of my eye, but I couldn't quite catch it to see what it was.  Luckily, I fell asleep in the car for a couple of hours, but when I woke up I had a raging headache.  I didn't know it at the time, but that was my first migraine.  My second came about the age of 17 or 18.  It was such a bad headache that I went to the emergency room.  They gave me demoral, and I slept for about 27 hours.  I woke up occasionally to go to the bathroom and remember still having the headache in those waking moments.  Since then the headaches came every couple of years or so with minor headaches in between.  At the age of 30, however, they started hitting me every month.  They seem to be hormone related, but I cannot predict a time of the month when they will arrive.  I cannot predict how strong they will be, nor how long they will last.  Some headaches take 5 days to dissipate, while others can be dealt with in a couple of hours.  Some react to my pain medication, Relpax, but others make me miserable the entire time.  The worst part of the headache is when I wake up.  I lay there feeling the pain and knowing that my whole day is ruined from the start.  I can take medicine and it might go away, but usually, the day is shot.

Like today.  I was looking forward to fasting this Sunday with real intent and having a very spiritual experience.  Not to be.  I have a headache.  The fasting is only going to make it worse. Standing and teaching my Sunday School lesson will be difficult.  Not only that, yesterday I tweeked my back so bad that I am having trouble moving today.  UGH, what a crappy day.

Ah, Texas!

It's been like a week since I wrote anything.  I must say, though, it has been a very fun week.  I got to go to Austin Texas for a family reunion.  My dad has 9 kids.  Of the 9 kids, 4 of us showed up.  But we had a super duper time.  We went to a water park, and we floated down the river, and we saw swarms of bats, and we walked in downtown Austin at night and heard all sorts of music.  The food was delicious, the company was even better.  I really have to work hard to beat that since it will be my turn in 4 years.  My brother, Scott, is pretty freakin' cool.  He made me feel like a million bucks.  He told me every day, several times a day, how glad he was that I was there.  When we would go places, he wanted me to sit in the front with him, and he wanted to walk by me and he wanted to ride the rides with me.  Oh, and we also went and saw the movie "Inception."  (good movie)

Since I got home, I have been cleaning like a maniac.  So so so much to do to get ready for Clayton's homecoming.  I would love to hire some type of live musician for Saturday's party.  Scott had a live musician come in and play guitar.  It was so awesome!

My thoughts on Texas. . . Texas is a Republic.  For some reason, that means that if they get tired of being part of the United States of America, they can just break off.  I am not sure how they accomplished this feat, but I think it is pretty snazzy.  What is even more exciting is that I am a citizen of Texas.  I was born in San Antonio.  So, if I need to leave the US, I have a home country to go to.  Now I have to start looking for land to buy and put a trailer on it so I can have a homestead there.  One never can be too prepared!
